Venue

The conference will be hosted jobEQ's headquarters in Belgium - in the convent in Eeklo. We will be using our completely renovated choir, which now became a library and training room
The library can seat up to 38 people, which should be enough if the conference stays at the same scale as the last 2 times, when we had mainly partners attending.  Since the conference will now be promoted to all certified users, it’s possible we’ll have more people who would attend.  In that case we’ll move the conference to the chapel next door, which can seat 110 persons.

There is hotel accommodation in the neighborhood (see http://jobeq.com/where_to_stay).
This year, we are also able to offer rudimentary “bed & breakfast” accommodation for up to 8 people in the convent.

For more information about the venue and accommodation, see the following pages:

More details

jobEQ Conference 2009 – Training Day
“More EQ for better results”

In 1996, after reading Goleman's book on Emotional Intelligence, Patrick Merlevede knew he had the answers to many of the issues raised by Daniel Goleman. He decide to write the book "7 Steps to Emotional Intelligence", demonstrating how best practices from cognitive science and NLP help to increase one's emotional intelligence. The book became a tremendous success, and was translated in 10 languages. Meanwhile Patrick hasn't stopped working. He wrote a book on enhancing approaches to Mentoring and Coaching with Emotional Intelligence and books on Knowledge Management and more efficient process management. For his 5th book, published on 26 March 2009, he decided to revisit the topic of emotional intelligence, based on 10 more years of experience in researching and teaching on this topic. Unfortunately, this new book was written in french and at this time no translations are being prepared.

This one day program will bring you a practical summary of the book, organized around the "MANTRA":

  1. M: Message: Do I listen to my emotions?
  2. A: Analysis: Do I capture the meaning of my emotions?
  3. N: Norm: What is there to learn from my emotions?
  4. T: Totality: What about others? Taking into account that I'm not alone in this world.
  5. R: Result: What do I really want?
  6. A: Action: Moving into action wih all the resources I have.

Given this training day is included in the programme for the jobEQ conference, links will be made to the jobEQ tools and methods. We will discuss how Attitude and Motivation, Value Systems and competencies fit in this picture.

jobEQ 2009 Conference – Pre-conference workshop

iWAM Trainer Certification Process - Monday 17 - Thursday 20th August 2009

The iWAM certification training, which will run from Tuesday 18 till Thursday 20th, will as be used as “trainer’s certification process”.  Here is how the process is structured:

  1. Before the conference, candidate trainers will get a self-study package consisting of the official jobEQ training slides + additional resources, such as iWAM Resource Guide, the iWAM manual and the eBook “An introduction to Meta-programs”.
  2. Monday, August 17th: Prior to the normal 3-day certification course, the candidate trainers will get one day “bootcamp” with Patrick Merlevede to discuss the training contents and questions they have about it.
  3. On Monday evening, they then will be assigned sections of the certification as theirs to give.
  4. Tuesday 18th to Thursday 20th: For the 3-day certification training, the audience will consist of people wishing to be certified as professionals as well as the other candidate trainers being present.  The candidate trainers will then be presenting the 3 other days under supervision of Patrick Merlevede.
  5. Thursday evening: Final feedback & graduation session: The presentations and interactions will provide the evidence whether candidates can be certified as iWAM trainers.  Candidates may be given a “conditional certification”, with some extra task to complete prior to receive their full certification.

Who should attend ?

  • Experienced certified iWAM professionals who are also professional trainers and wish to run training sessions based on the iWAM and/or want to certify others in the use of iWAM
  • LAB Profile trainer/consultants wanting to become jobEQ partners
  • NLP trainers with a good knowledge of metaprograms, looking for a tool to add to their toolbox

Why is this training being organized?

To run training “Officially” (also public training), till 2008 the requirement has been: “taking the certification training” with Patrick Merlevede + being “grandfathered” (based upon LAB Profile trainer/consultant certification or an accepted NLP trainer certification, such as Dilts’ or Woodsmall’s , in combination with a good reputation as NLP trainer).

However, in the past 2 years, we had several cases of certified iWAM users who did not meet the “grandfathering criteria”, wishing to run training based on the iWAM.  Several of them were experienced trainers and/or high-level consultants (but with another background).

This is why a process has been created for certifying trainers, who then have to show that they are competent in running the iWAM training.  It is NOT a trainer’s training (that is left to Shelle Rose Charvet and others), but a certification process (designed for demonstrating one's competence in running a certification training).  This process also replaces most the “grandfathering procedure”, which will now be restricted to exceptional cases.

The number of attendants to this certification process is limited to a maximum 12 so that every candidate trainer will get enough chance to demonstrate their competence.

Cost of attendance:

1000 Euro for 4 days – 800 Euro when paid in full before July 1st

Special price 2009 for certified LAB Profile trainer/consultants:
699 Euro when registering and paying by July 1st

Venue:
The convent, Eeklo, Belgium

More information about the other training days

iWAM certification training, (Tuesday 18 till Thursday 20th)

The iWAM certification training is a 3-day programme during which people learn to:

  • distinguish the meta-programs measured by the iWAM,
  • question them (in a similar way to what the LAB Profile training does,
  • give feedback on them (to an individual or a team)
  • use them in various applications, such as recruiting, assessment, coaching, teambuilding and modeling excellence
  • use jobEQ's software to administer the iWAM questionnaire and generate the various reports.
After this training, depending on their level of competence, the participants are awarded the certificate of iWAM Professional or iWAM associate.

iWAM coaching day (Thursday 20th)

The iWAM coaching day is the last day of the iWAM certification program.  Given that several iWAM users didn’t get an extensive exposure to coaching applications of iWAM and the newest developments in this area, including coaching teams and organizational leaders, we decided to open up this last day of the training to certified users wanting to refresh their knowledge of coaching applications of the iWAM.  Applications that will be covered: individual coaching, working with pairs and team coaching. Principles covered will include the Offman model, iWAM’s communication language and focusing on strengths VS coping with development areas.  The training will be under supervision of Patrick Merlevede. The modules will be delivered by candidate trainers enrolled in the iWAM trainer certification process.

COMET certification workshop (Monday 24th)

During this 1-day training program with Patrick Merlevede, you’ll learn how to use the COMET methodology to design a behavior based competency model and how to use this model for recruiting & assessment, either though behavior based interviewing or by using COMET questionnaires (either in self-assessment or 360°-feedback mode).  You will also learn to use the COMET method for coaching, as part of  jobEQ’s action oriented coaching approach.

VSQ certification workshop (Tuesday 25th)

During this 1-day workshop with Patrick Merlevede you will learn the patterns measured by jobEQ’s Value Systems Questionnaire and how they help to map organizational cultures.  Applications include Cultural Modeling, aligning organizational cultures and organizational consulting.  You will learn how to use the VSQ questionnaire and will work on a case study showing the effect of  Value Systems on organizational cultures.  Recommended pre-reading: the book “Spiral Dynamics” by Don Beck & Chris Cowan (1996).

Modeling workshop (Wednesday 26th)

This 1-day program with Patrick Merlevede is open for experienced iWAM and/or VSQ users who want to use jobEQ’s toolset for modeling.[1]  You will learn to use the advanced modeling features available from jobEQ for making models of excellence for a job role and/or for modeling organizational cultures or even making standard groups.  The program includes the procedures to be followed to make a model and the underlying statistical principles.  We will either work on a case study from one or several of the participants who have already made models in collaboration with jobEQ or on some models jobEQ made for other projects.  Certification of this course gives you the right to create models of excellence using jobEQ’s toolset.  For being certified, we expect that you make a first model under supervision of jobEQ (this can be done prior or after attending this workshop).

[1] jobEQ’s tools have been designed around the principle of modeling excellence.  For that purpose, certified modelers can subscribe to extensions to the search engine and to team report (the subscription to the extension costs 50 credits a year, including help desk support by Patrick Merlevede).
